Many workplaces contain areas that are considered "confined spaces" because while they are not necessarily designed for people, they are large enough for workers to enter and perform certain jobs. A confined space also has limited or restricted means for entry or exit and is not designed for continuous occupancy. These spaces possess unique hazards that require additional safety procedures to ensure workers are safe.
This course meets the training requirement for confined space entry per the OSHA General Industry Standard (29 CFR 1910.146) and the OSHA Construction Standard (29 CFR 1926 Subpart AA).
Agenda:
Hazard Evaluation
Use of portable meters (LEL, Oxygen, others...)
Confined Space characterization (Permit required, Controlled atmosphere, Isolated hazard)
Documentation preparation and maintenance (CS permit, safe work permits, others)
CS Identification
Roles of Confined Space entry personnel (Supervisor, Entrant, Attendant)
Emergency and rescue requirements
Employees who use Confined Space equipment (Respirators, harnesses, tripod/winch, etc) must be certified by the employer for competency with using this equipment.
Students may stop and restart this course at their own pace. The course consists of video, practice problems and an examination. Students should allocate approximately 4-6 hours at the computer in order to complete this course. Upon successful completion of an online test, students will be issued a certificate. Students can always call or e-mail an instructor while working on course materials.
