Covers the International Maritime Organization and US DOT PHMSA shipping requirements for vessel transport of Dangerous Goods/Hazardous Materials found in Amendment 40-20 of the IMDG Code and 49 CFR 171-180.

This comprehensive course addresses how to navigate the IMDG Code 2 volume set.    This is mandatory training for individuals that offer Dangerous Goods for international vessel transportation or load freight containers with Dangerous Goods.  The IMDG Code has some distinct differences from 49 CFR: more restrictive load segregation requirements, more inclusive placard rules, different environmental hazardous substance classification requirements and more.       Students will be given ample video instruction and will fine tune newly acquired skills through use of practice problems.   The goal of this course is to have the student walk away with a thorough understanding of how to use the IMDG Code, but most importantly, how to ship dangerous goods via vessel transport.

Depending upon whether the student is taking this course as an initial or refresher, students should allocate approximately 9 to 14 hours at the computer in order to complete this course.    It is recommended students first complete DOT 49 CFR ground training prior to enrolling in this course.   This course does not cover radioactive materials.

Students may stop and restart this course at their own pace. Upon successful completion of an online test, students will be issued a certificate. Students can always call or e-mail an instructor while working on course materials. Students will be provided with an electronic manual that includes slide handouts and other course materials. The student must have the most current version of the IMDG Code in order to take this course.
