For shippers of hazardous waste who use pre-made manifests. This course covers the US DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations, 49 CFR 171-180, applicable to shipping hazardous waste via ground transportation.
This session addresses all required training requirements of 49 CFR 172.704 - General Awareness, Function Specific (Shipping Hazardous Waste), Safety and Security.
Topics include classification, hazardous substances, marine pollutants, marks, labels, package selection, manifest preparation, vehicle placards, load segregation and more. Does not cover radioactive materials.
Students may stop and restart this course at their own pace. The course consists of video, practice problems and an examination. Students should allocate approximately 9 hours at the computer in order to complete this course. Upon successful completion of an online test, students will be issued a certificate. Students can always call or e-mail an instructor while working on course materials.
Students will be provided with an electronic manual that includes all course materials which includes the 2024 Emergency Response Guidebook, the HAZMATEAM Lithium Battery Shipping Guide and more. Student will be shown how to use the DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations (49 CFR 171-180) via the Electronic Code of Federal Regulations.
